The Expendables 4 VFX Breakdown by WorldWide FX

"The Expendables 4," the much-anticipated fourth installment in the action-packed film series, hit theaters in China on September 15, 2023, followed by a United States release a week later, courtesy of Lionsgate. Directed by Scott Waugh, the movie boasts an ensemble cast featuring familiar faces such as Jason Statham, Sylvester Stallone, Dolph Lundgren, and Randy Couture reprising their roles from previous films. Joining the fray are new additions, including Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson, Megan Fox, Tony Jaa, Iko Uwais, Jacob Scipio, Levy Tran, and Andy García.

Despite the star-studded lineup, "The Expendables 4" received predominantly negative reviews from critics. Criticisms were directed at the film's plot, the limited screen time for Sylvester Stallone, the absence of key members from the original cast, and the subpar visual effects. The movie struggled at the box office, grossing only $39 million worldwide against a substantial budget of $100 million. The lukewarm reception raised questions about the future of the franchise and left fans and critics alike disappointed in what was hoped to be another thrilling addition to "The Expendables" series.
